Diana came to Donald Campbell via the same route as many of her early fashion sources - her family. Her sister Jane Fellowes was a regular client. Diana was intent on looking proper in her new role, and felt that his work, noted for tasteful styling and use of beautiful fabric, would be appropriate. In the same vein, note the hem, which at below the knee was surprisingly dowdy for a lovely 20 year old young woman - Diana was trying to look decorous and suitable for a member of the Royal Family.
This recreation is in a printed silk by Sylvia Braden, and consists of the dress with a solid top and print skirt, the tie-front silk jacket, and a quilted clutch bag. Shown with the shoes from the White Lace gown, the necklace from the Grey Suit ensemble, the watch from the Casual Khaki outfit, and my own earrings. |
