Llama Patterned Sweater

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

As a young Sloane Ranger, Diana cared little for fashion trends, but she did have preferences, and, among other things, liked novelty patterned cotton sweaters. This llama patterned one came from the Peruvian import store Inca, and she was seen in it quite early (left), with jeans and another favorite style, the frilled-neck blouse. This was probably before her engagement was announced as she was still working, caught by photographers with some of her pre-school charges. It appeared again later, in May of 1981 at Balmoral, this time with knickerbockers by the designer Margaret Howell and Wellies (right).
This sweater may have been one of the first fashion fads Diana started - after a newspaper story revealed where she had bought it, it was reported that the shop sold 500 in 3 days.

Hand Knit from 100% cotton thread. Sweater closes at the back with snaps. Includes white ruffled dickey. Shown (left) with jeans and the shoes from the Princess of Glamour doll. Shown (right) with thin wale cotton corduroy trousers, and Wellies from S 'n E. (Thanks to Laura A. for this photograph!)

In the spirit of Diana's charity work, this sweater benefits breast cancer awareness, screening, and research. A donation will be made to either the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or to any other breast cancer organization directed by the buyer. For further details or to see proof of donations, please e-mail.
