Catherine Walker Burgundy Column Gown With Pearls

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

When Diana auctioned off 79 of her dresses for charity in 1997, this Catherine Walker dress was Lot 32, described as "a sophisticated columnar dress of burgundy silk velvet", and fetched $29,900. It was slit to the knee in back and extravagantly embroidered with simulated pink pearls at the neckline which give, as the Christie's catalog says, "a shimmmering effect to the shoulders".

It was worn for private functions, probably dinners with the royal family at Sandringham or Balmoral.

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl People’s Princess doll is based on a purchased stretch velvet sleeveless mermaid gown. I slimmed down the silhouette to make the column shape, added the knee high slit in the back. attached a white lining, and then reworked the neckline and added the pink pearls. Shown with the earrings from the Inspecting the Guard outfit, and shoes from the Princess of Glamour doll.

(This is a OOAK, no more can be made)
