Mondi Polo Player Sweater

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Arriving at Aberdeen airport in 1986 for the Balmoral holiday, Diana helps her boys off the plane, wearing a sweater with a polo player pattern by the German house of Mondi and a silk pleated skirt by Jasper Conran. Diana often wore a skirt and sweater on this yearly trip - she had always loved patterned sweaters, it was warm without being bulky, and while casual and comfortable, looked polished enough for the inevitable cameras.

While it was believed she had to wear only British fashion, that was never the case, and although Diana did showcase British designers when at all possible (especially on her official engagements and tours), her love for interesting patterned sweaters brought her to Mondi. It had started in the 60's as a knitwear company, and although by this time had branched out into a full-line house, it was their sweaters (and the publicity of Diana's purchases) that made them prosper.

Patterned sweater, completely hand knit, from 100% cotton thread. Also comes with the white ruffled 'pie-crust' collar dickey, which is attached to a flesh-colored stretchy body suit to protect against staining. Shown with white pleated skirt, the watch from the Casual Khaki Outfit, and shoes from the Princess of Glamour.
