Oldfield Cocktail Dress
Bruce Oldfield Satin & Lace Cocktail Suit
fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll
| (Left)The Prince and Princess of Wales made an official visit to Australia in 1988, in honor of the country's bicentennial. For the tour, Diana ordered this lace and satin cocktail suit from Bruce Oldfield (it's actually a lace dress with a satin jacket in the same shade.) He must have been happily surprised when she wore it to the Royal Bicentennial Concert in Sydney, where he was amongst the designers present for a bicentennial fashion show. She also wore it that June to a charity tennis benefit in honor of the Wishing Well Appeal, of which she was patron, and in August to the Dance Theater of Harlem's performance for the AIDS Crisis Trust. In April of 1989 she wore it to a dinner in honor of the Gloucestershire Constabulary, and it appeared again (right) in June of 1990, at the ballet at Sadler's Wells for the charity Turning Point, of which she was also patron. | |
| Polyester ivory lace and satin 2-piece cocktail suit (the actual color is a bit darker than the photograph came out, closer to the shade in the right photo above). Jacket features lace inset at the deep neckline, matching painted stud 'buttons' at the front, and closes with snaps. Skirt is in polyester satin with a lace overskirt, has hangar loops, and also closes with snaps. Both jacket and skirt are fully lined. Comes with satin clutch bag with organdy bow trim, and'pearl' necklace. Shown with the shoes from the Franklin Mint Princess Di Royal Portrait Vinyl Doll LE (the one in the 'Elysee' gown) and earrings from the Light Blue Suit. | |
