Versace Lilac Shift
fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll
After her separation and divorce, Diana turned to a sleeker and more 'minimal' look. As she was no longer a member of the royal family there was no need for clothing that adhered to protocol for official or state occasions, and she was free to opt for styles that flattered her age and figure, were more contemporary, and yet were simple enough so that interest in her clothes did not overshadow her work and message. The shift dress, in a stunning color, exquisitely fitted and accompanied by classic accessories, became a staple of her working wardrobe, and this lilac one by Versace was typical. She wore it during her trip to Australia in November of 1996, to raise funds for a Sydney cardiac research institute. (Palace officials were reportedly upset by this trip - the Queen was at the same time paying a state visit to Thailand, but when Diana arrived in Australia most of the reporters and photographers abruptly fled to cover Diana).
| This recreation is in lilac linen, features topstitching around the armholes and hem, as did the original, is fully lined, and closes in the back with a zipper. Also comes with 4-strand 'pearl' choker. Shown with the shoes and handbag from the Light Blue Suit outfit, and watch from the Casual Khaki Outfit. In the spirit of Diana's charity work, this was auctioned in September of 2005 to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief. |
