Catherine Walker Grey Tailcoat Suit

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Diana ordered this exceptional Catherine Walker suit for Royal Ascot, 1988 (left), a grey silk dupioni coat with mother of pearl buttons, over a white linen shift. Shortly thereafter, she wore it again to the wedding of James Ogilvy, a cousin of the Queen, and a year later, it went to another wedding, that of her brother(right). Catherine Walker modeled the style after that of a Regency gentleman's cutaway tailcoat, but tailored it as a dress instead of a suit, to give it a more fluid and feminine line. The white straw hat is from Philip Sommerville.

This recreation, like the original, features a pearl grey silk dupioni tailcoat jacket over a white linen shift dress. Both are lined in polyester, the suit in grey, the dress in white. The jacket also features shell button detail on the front and back, as well as cuff buttons. The 'straw' hat is made of white Aida cloth with white trim. Also included is the white vinyl clutch handbag and 'pearl' necklace. Shown with the shoes from the White Lace Gown and earrings from the Light Blue Suit.
