Alastair Blair Flounced Day Dress

fits Franklin Mint Diana Portrait Doll

Diana was first seen in this Alastair Blair ruffled silk day dress at her arrival in Thailand on a state visit in 1988 (left). Philip Sommerville provided the lattice straw hat. After that one public wearing, it moved to her private wardrobe. Diana wore it to Wimbledon in 1989, without the hat but with a navy belt, and in August of 1990 she was caught by the papparazzi in it twice - arriving in Majorca for the Wales' annual vacation with the Spanish royals, and, paired with a crop navy jacket, returning from a private weekend trip with her mother to the Verona music festival, where she had gone to hear Pavarotti sing (right).

Despite the title here, it actually appears to be a two piece outfit,a blouse and matching skirt.

Alastair Blair was a favorite designer of Sarah Ferguson's (she wore one of his designs when her engagement to Prince Andrew was announced), and Diana's friendship with Sarah may have led her to Blair.
