Topshop Contrast Collar Dress

A charity close to Prince Wiliam's heart was the Child Bereavement Trust, which gives support when a child loses someone close (usually a parent), or when a child dies. The charity was founded in 1994 by a Julia Samuel, a friend of William's mother. When Julia told Diana about the launch, Diana immmediately volunteered to attend so as to garner publicity for it, despite it being during the period when she had retired from public life. William, for obvious reasons, felt close to the charity's cause and became its patron in 2009. He spoke movingly at a fundraiser :

"My mother Diana was present at your launch 15 years ago, and I am incredibly proud to be able to continue her support for your fantastic charity, by becoming your royal patron. What my mother recognised then - and what I understand now - is that losing a close family member is one of the hardest experiences that anyone can ever endure.
Never being able to say the word 'Mummy' again in your life sounds like a small thing. However, for many, including me, it's now really just a word - hollow and evoking only memories.
I can therefore wholeheartedly relate to the Mother's Day campaign as I too have felt - and still feel - the emptiness on such a day as Mother's Day."

He and Kate visited the Child Bereavement Centre in March 2013, (left)while she was pregnant with Prince George. She chose this somber outfit, a black shift dress with contrasting white Peter Pan collar, from one of her favorite places, Topshop. It was from their Fall 2012 line. She also wore it a month later when she recorded a video message in support of Children's Hospice Week, in her capacity as patron of the East Anglia Children's Hospices.

It's thought she wore this dress again in her third pregnancy, visiting the Hornsey Road Children's Centre in November, 2017. Although she wore a cream coat throughout, a white Peter Pan collar and short black dress could be seen peeking out at the top and bottom (right).

This recreation for the Franklin Mint vinyl Kate Middleton doll is in black linen, fully lined in white to prevent staining. The white Peter Pan collar is in cotton. It fastens in the back with snaps. Shown with a small 'baby bump'. The black hose are from from Dollsecrets, and the shoes are from the Franklin Mint Kate Middleton Engagement doll.
