TECHNICAL SUPPORT
If you are having a problem, the “Rule of Thumb” is: COLD BOOT
This is the first thing you want to do, it may correct the problem immediately. (a cold boot is shutting down or exiting windows, when the screen says it is safe to turn off your computer, turn off the power to your unit, wait a few seconds, and turn the power on again)
If the cold boot doesn’t work, use the following guidelines before calling tech support for help. These guidelines will assist the support staff in giving you efficient service.
1. YOUR USERNAME: Be ready to give tech support your username, this is how we identify who you are. You chose your username when you signed up for internet access and it's also the beginning part of your email address. (this is also your "login name" when you put a capital P in front and log into the NCWeb)
2. HAVE YOUR COMPUTER TURNED ON and your desktop visible and/or the software open that you are having a problem with. (desktop is the main screen with all of the icon's on it) YES, YOU CAN have your computer on and call us at the same time. Unless you have two phone lines, there is no need to connect to the internet before calling.
3. WHAT SYSTEM ARE YOU USING: Windows 98, Windows XP, MAC, etc.
4. SOFTWARE: What software you are using i.e. Outlook Express or Internet Mail for email. Internet Explorer or Netscape for browsing the Internet.
5. ERROR MESSAGE: Make note of any error messages you are getting and what you were doing when you got them. (It is not necessary to note the numbers on the error message.)
6. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT: Contact NCWeb if the problem has to do with connecting to NCWeb, browsing the Internet, email, and other problems relating to internet access with North Coast Web.
If you are using software programs that were purchased or downloaded from the Internet, you may need to contact the company whose software you are using. (We can help you input the basic settings needed to get most programs to work with NCWeb connection to the Internet).
Should you choose to use E-mail for technical support, the same guidelines
apply.
