At the meetings we usually go to the Pikovnik's house. We discuss different topics on the care of sheep. They occur on the second Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Sometimes we go to the homes of other 4-H members. We sometimes have picnics or cookouts.
On field trips we have gone to Yeo Farms Livestock Judging Contest, The Vins Northside Farm, which is a farm where you can buy show lambs, Austinburg Feedmill where we watch them mix feed. This year we hope to go to the Ohio Youth Sheep Extravaganza that is held in Columbus. The field trips are a fun learning experience and are really cool!
At the Lake County Fair we have tons of fun. It is probably the most exciting time of the year. It's on August 15th through the 20th. we walk our lambs around the pens and on Thursday we show. There are many different classes in the fair. I will post them on the Home Page when I get the schedule booklet. It is very exciting but also very tiring.
For community service we auctioned a charity lamb our club raised and donated the proceeds to Reverend Kalb to use for his homeless shelter, Project Hope in Painesville. We also collected canned goods and donated them to the salvation army and gave school supplies to needy Lake County students.
Fundraising is fun. We usually go to a store, like having a bowl-a-thon. This year we went to Quality Farm & Fleet and sold poinsettias for the Christmas holidays. We got the poinsettias from the grandfather of one of our members who owns Cass-Mill Nurseries in Madison. We had a great poinsettia sale!
